Sam Baron continues his exploration into what makes an object belong to a specific region, following a series of vases created with Mexican artisans. Cruciu Vase is a version of the humble terracotta water jug seen throughout the world and throughout time. Baron urges artisans from various parts of the world to create these jugs in their own style, with only modest suggestions on design and construction. The variation between the resulting jugs is a dual signifier: that we are all descended from the same ancestors, that our unique cultures enrich us.
*The grey glaze is made from leftover glazes from the Usai studio. It is, therefore, uncontrollable and has an original tint to it every time.
