There are a few wooden, caned chairs in the corner of every rural Sardinian home. They are taken out when guests come over when the fireplace is lit when it is time to sit in a circle and shell fava beans or crack open almonds. They come in different sizes, with elderly Sardinians preferring to sit in the tiniest, child-sized chairs. Inspired by the social aspect of its use and by the variations of design and decoration often observed in the traditional versions, Chiara Andreatti designed this exquisite Lia Chair.
By keeping the original proportions while increasing the overall size, the designer has made them remarkable and comfortable. The decorations take direct inspiration from her numerous experiences on the island, ranging from visits to local weavers to handmade pasta (lorighittas) to old talismans shapes. She collaborated with artisan Pierpaolo Mandis on the creation of a series of three scannu.
