FROM THE TREE TO THE WOOD, A FORCE OF NATURE BECOMES A MATERIAL.
The Atelier Musset is a collaboration between one artisan and various designers to make unique contemporary furniture out of antique construction wood. Atelier Musset values shaping wood into modern forms to reveal its rich details. Founded by Timothée Musset, all their creations are the result of a desire to explore materiality, along with reflection, know-how, and creativity.
Timothée Musset had the opportunity to work on historical monuments while working as a carpenter with the Association Ouvrière des Compagnons du Devoir during the Tour de France. He could rub shoulders with ancient timbers that had previously been carved by hand and then by time. After immersing himself in a transmission process centred on the sensitivity of woods that were passed down through millennia but sometimes abandoned, Timothée decided to create Atelier Musset. He intends to display that this material only asks to be further magnified while highlighting its imperfections as essential components of its beauty. Thus, Timothée Musset's aim, whether alone or in collaboration, is to put a new perspective on what we consider obsolete, reminding us that time does not destroy but instead shapes matter down to the finest detail, all for contemplation.
