    Tomoya Sakai

“The pottery has something which makes me feel I am alive now. I keep working on it to seek such feelings. I always create works using a pottery wheel.”

Tomoya Sakai is a ceramicist who gets inspiration for his artwork from natural materials, architectural structures, and scenes from animations and science fiction films. Sakai's first encounter with pottery was at university in 2013. He used the wheel throwing technique, which sparked his fascination with the sensation of tension, the centrifugal force, and the feel of clay changing shape in his hand. Sakai is ecstatic about the kiln firing, which to him is like a holy ritual. He uses several pieces produced by spinning the wheel to reorganize and assemble chaotic images in his head. He strives to create unique and intriguing new visuals by expressing his imagined sceneries.
