VESSEL No2 is a standing cabinet, sand-cast aluminium, hand patinated, designed as a non-disguising shell wrapped by a tight grid of reinforcement ribs. The sideboard houses three fold-open compartments.
For this piece, Janssen was inspired by the non-aesthetically designed character of cast metal housings of, for example, an engine block or a machine part. A grid of reinforcing ribs can often be seen in such housings. The housing as a non-disguising shell and with its characteristic rounded corners forms a sharp contrast with the tight grid of the ribs.
