Sizar Alexis is a Swedish-Iraqi product and furniture designer who experiments with geometrical shapes that exhibit serenity while staying sturdy in volume.
Alexis was born in the northern Iraqi city of Ankawa, not far from Erbil. His Chaldean ancestors can be traced back to 5000 BC in ancient Mesopotamia. With his family, he relocated to Eskilstuna, Sweden, in 1997. He began to explore his interest in designing objects and home furnishing during his studies at Beckmans College of Design. He holds a bachelors degree in Engineering (2009) and Fine Arts (2019).
His trademark style, based on designing objects with a strong character, is achieved using raw and imperfect surfaces in a combination of a strong interest in Brutalism and rich cultural and architectural heritage from ancient Mesopotamia. Alexis creates objects that survive the test of time by juxtaposing the delicate characteristics of fine materials with Brutalist geometric shapes.
