The L1 Chair is a minimalist seating piece designed by Donghyun Cho, a Seoul-based designer with a background in metalsmithing. Anchored by a precisely engineered stainless-steel frame, the chair combines structural durability with a visually light and balanced presence. The seat is formed from thick vegetable-tanned leather (available in natural or black) suspended in a hammock-like configuration that evenly distributes weight while introducing tension as an integral structural element. This careful integration of material and construction allows the L1 Chair to comfortably support a wide range of users.
Conceived with adaptability in mind, the L1 Chair can be customized to suit individual body proportions, and its modular construction enables efficient assembly and disassembly, supporting flexible use and collaborative applications. Despite its composed and restrained appearance, the design reflects a rigorous balance of simplicity and precision, with each component reduced to its essential function while contributing to the overall visual coherence of the piece.
Through the L1 Chair, Cho continues his exploration of optimal form through a minimalist design language, where the repetition of simple geometries generates depth, rhythm, and subtle visual tension. The result is a chair that unites visual refinement with tactile experience, offering a contemporary interpretation of utility, craftsmanship, and enduring design.
