Overview
Transparent is a Stockholm based modular electronics brand on a mission to become the world’s first circular tech company.
It achieves this through timeless, modular products designed to be continuously upgraded and improved over time. The brand is founded on the belief that products should evolve rather than be replaced, and that companies bear responsibility for reducing electronic waste. Founders Per and Martin previously worked for the Stockholm design studio People People, where they spent over a decade developing work for major international consumer electronic brands. In 2011, they published the concept for the Transparent Speaker in a blog post outlining a sustainable design philosophy and addressing the tension between home electronics and interior design. The idea quickly went viral, leading to a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2013. Transparent’s products are designed for a circular economy, prioritizing longevity, repairability and modularity. Components can be upgraded or replaced individually as technology evolves, allowing users to update their devices without discarding the entire product. In this way, Transparent aims to extend product lifecycles and actively reduce electronic waste.
