Milan Pekar is a Czech ceramic artist whose work primarily focuses on experimental ceramic glazes, in which various types of crystals grow within molten glaze surface.
He has developed innovative crystalline glaze techniques where metallic crystals of iron, copper, and molybdenum along with optical or illusory crystal effects, form across the surface of his works. These unpredictable transformations are central to his practice, where material behavior in the kiln becomes an active collaborator in the final outcome.
Alongside his glaze research, Pekar also creates ceramic furniture using soft extruded profiles. He approached furniture as a form of fine art, drawing inspiration from archetypal, architectural and applied art forms, where function is not strictly predetermined but open and interpretive. His works often combine sculptural presence with technical experimentation, treating each object as both a functional possibility and a material study. Through this approach, he explores the boundary between ceramic objects, architectural form and experimental surface.
