Taller Batan is a woodworking studio based in Mexico City, founded in 2020 by self taught designers Sebastian Cappiello (Carcas, 1998) and Marco Cordero (Mexico City, 1999).
Rooted in an ecological initiative in the pine oak forests of Donato Guerra, Mexico, the studio’s practice begins with the responsible reclamation of wood. Each piece is carefully guided through its full lifecycle, from standing tree, to processed timber and ultimately to its final crafted form.
Taller Batan researches, designs and hand crafts every object in-house, maintaining full control over material selection and production. Often carved from a single block of wood, their works approach furniture and objects through a sculptural lens, resulting in functional pieces with a distinctly monolithic and grounded presence. Their process emphasizes the natural character of wood, allowing grain, weight and imperfection to inform the final form. Rather than concealing material history, they highlight it, treating each object as a continuation of the landscape it came from. Above all, Taller Batan is a celebration of wood, its origins, transformation and enduring physical presence.
