For Benjamin Motoc, design is inseparable from the act of making an exploration of materials and craftsmanship where experimentation shapes both the creative process and the final form.
Benjamin Motoc is a French designer and sculptor who graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Working between Paris and Rotterdam, his practice explores the relationship between material experimentation, traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design.
Through hands-on research and experimental casting techniques, Motoc creates sculptural furniture and objects using materials such as bronze and aluminium. His practice embraces the unpredictable interaction of materials, notably pouring molten wax onto ice to generate unique organic textures and forms. Rather than concealing the manufacturing process, he incorporates its traces into the final object, allowing material behaviour, craftsmanship and function to shape each creation.
