Born in Michigan in 1935, Francis Wilson earned his B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1957 before relocating to New York. In 1965, he left the city to spend a year traveling through France, Greece, and Turkey. Two years later, he settled in Paris, and by 1973, he began splitting his time between Paris and Provence. That same year, he completed a master’s degree at the Université de Paris – La Sorbonne.

Wilson began exhibiting his work in 1979, primarily across Europe, but also in Japan, South America, and the United States. His multidisciplinary practice spans textiles, painting, sculpture, and drawing.

In 1982, Wilson embarked on a lecture tour across the United States, sharing insights into his artistic practice. In 1987, he traveled to Colombia to oversee the installation and opening of the exhibition Ten Artists from France at the National Museum of Bogotá. That same year, he was honored as a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
