Katja Beckman is an artist who creates sculptural tapestries through an experimental combination of weaving structures, techniques and materials.
Her work explores how memories and places are reconstructed in the mind. Beckman trained as a handweaver at HV Skola in Stockholm, where she developed a strong technical foundation in textile making, and later completed an MFA in Textile Craft at Konstfack in 2016. Constantly pushing the boundaries of weaving, she experiments with scale, structure and material behaviour. Her large-scale works allow for organic, often unpredictable results, where the woven surface buckles and shifts under its own weight, creating sculptural forms reminiscent of natural elements such as rock formations and moss.
Despite their vibrant colours, her pieces remain quiet and contemplative. They do not demand attention but invite slow engagement, encouraging viewers to explore their surfaces and immerse themselves in their subtle, tactile language.
