Overview
Sizar Alexis is a Swedish Iraqi product and furniture designer who experiments with geometric shapes that convey serenity while maintaining a strong, solid presence.
Alexis was born in Ankawa, in northern Iraq near Erbil. His Chaldean heritage traces back to ancient Mesopotamia and in 1997 he relocated with his family to Eskilstuna, Sweden. His interest in object and furniture design developed during his studies at Beckmans College of Design. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (2009) and Fine Arts (2019). His signature style is defined by objects with a strong character, achieved through the use of raw, imperfect surfaces combined with a deep interest in Brutalism and the rich cultural and architectural heritage of ancient Mesopotamia. By juxtaposing the delicate qualities of refined materials with bold, geometrical forms, Alexis creates pieces that are both timeless and enduring.
