Atelier Contour designs and creates interiors, furniture, and objects. Throughout its design process, the studio continuously seeks new starting points, approaches or perspectives in order to develop a diverse range of design solutions. Craftsmanship and the honest use of materials remain at the core of its practice.
Working with a restrained design language, Atelier Contour reconsiders value through reuse. The studio transforms residual wooden beams from industrial drying ovens, materials shaped by heat, pressure and time, into furniture that retains the memory of its previous function. Rather than concealing these traces, techniques such as carving and controlled burning allow the cubic imprints of lamination to recede, while contrasts between rough and smooth surfaces are brought to the forefront. Asymmetrical compositions further challenge convention, preventing the pieces from settling into fixed typologies.
Through texture and surface treatment, wood species often considered inferior are re-evaluated. Minimal intervention becomes both an aesthetic and ecological strategy, extending the life of material while redefining its value.
