Johannes Hemann founded his eponymous studio in Frankfurt, Germany in 2011, later relocating it to Bad Sooden-Allendorf in 2013. He describes his design approach as organic and process driven, aiming to “translate the complexity and diversity of nature into objects and products.”
Notable works include Stolenwood Catching the Wild Coat Rack (2005) and Stolenwood Hit It (2005), a series of saloon style furniture made from PE foam; Storm (2008-2015), a collection shaped by wind forces using compressed air, glue, and heat, commissioned for the Christian Dior flagship store in Seoul by architect Peter Marino in 2015; and Wrap (2016), a series of pendants and table lights created by wrapping brass, copper, and iron wire around tree branches to form hollow shells. Other significant works include the Akoya Table Light (2016-2019).
