Overview
"Working with clay feels like a lineage with these times. Hands in the now are working with the same materials as then, with the same primordial connection to clay. It transcends time and space. I honor and explore this open field of possibilities with instinct and innocence." - Léa Munsch
Léa Munsch is a French ceramic artist who draws inspiration from nature to create primarily unglazed works that reveal the inherent texture, tone and materiality of clay. Her practice explores the potential of clay as a medium rooted in a lineage that connects contemporary making practices to an ancient human gesture. Guided by instincts and curiosity, she approaches her work as an open field of experimentation, where process and material intuition play a central role. Munsch lives and works in Lorraine, France, where she has transformed an old factory perched along a river, deep within a forest into her studio space. This secluded environment informs the quiet, grounded atmosphere of her practice.
